Senior Advisor

About

Julie Lyslo Skullestad is a senior advisor specialising in life cycle assessments (LCA) and indirect emissions, and a member of the climate mitigation research group.

She is passionate about leveraging insights into life cycle-based climate impacts to develop effective emission reduction strategies. Her goal is to enhance knowledge and understanding among decision-makers in this field.

Julie holds a Master of Science in Energy and Environment from NTNU, with specialisation in Industrial Ecology. In her master's thesis, she compared the carbon footprint of high-rise timber buildings with that of traditional steel and concrete structures. Her research involved investigating how different LCA methodologies influence the results, particularly regarding the treatment of biogenic CO2 uptake and release in trees, and how these affect the climate impact of timber as a construction  material.

Since 2015, Julie has worked as a climate and environmental advisor, with a strong focus on applying LCA methodology to assess the full life cycle climate impact of various products and solutions. She has played a key role in developing tools and methodologies for LCA-based greenhouse gas assessments, such as for buildings and the reuse of construction materials. Additionally, she has contributed to defining climate requirements for public procurement, conducted studies and assessments of the carbon footprint in the construction sector, and helped establish national benchmarks for the carbon footprint of different building categories.

Julie also has experience in defining and implementing various types of climate and sustainability measures in projects and companies—always with the holistic LCA perspective in mind.
