The election will occur in Kenya from 25 to 28 July.

Dr Fuglestvedt has served as the vice chair of Working Group I since 2015, where he has, among other things, contributed as a team player to increasing the IPCC’s cross-disciplinary work. He initiated and organised cross-WG meetings and collaboration on various topics such as scenarios and carbon budgets.

For the next period, Fuglestvedt would like to further the cross-disciplinary approach to increase the policy relevance of climate science and IPCC assessments.

“I am highly motivated to be part of the effort to take the IPCC to the level needed to address the pressing scientific and policy-related issues ahead of us.

“If elected, I will further my efforts to support coordination and consistency across the Working Groups and build on what has been learned from writing Special Reports and cross-Working Group collaboration, to make the best and most relevant climate science available to policymakers”, said Fuglestvedt.

Norway’s Focal Point to the IPCC, Ole-Kristian Kvissel from the Norwegian Environment Agency, underlines the importance of cross-disciplinary work to advance policy relevance.

“In his first term, Dr Fuglestvedt did an excellent and much appreciated job fostering collaboration across scientific communities and Working Groups. To maintain and extend IPCC’s relevance for policy development at global and national scales, Norway continues to see this bridging function as of critical importance”, said Kvissel.
