CICERO well represented in Stanford's global scientist ranking
Eight researchers from CICERO have been included in Stanford University's widely recognized ranking of the world's most influential scientists, highlighting the institute's strong contribution to international climate research.
The ranking, published through the Stanford Top 2% Scientists database and presented by TOPSCINET, identifies researchers whose scientific work has had exceptional impact based on citation metrics and other indicators of research influence.
For Robbie Andrew, who is among the eight CICERO researchers included in the ranking, the recognition reflects both the importance of climate research and the value of international collaboration.
– This recognition shows that we work in a field that is of very broad interest, and of course climate change affects many other fields. We work specifically on the foundational understanding that underlies much other work, Andrew says.
Particularly notable is Glen Peters, who is ranked 24th globally in the field of Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences, placing him among the world's most influential researchers in his discipline.
Reflects the breadth of research
Being included on the list is an indication that a researcher’s work has had significant visibility and impact within the scientific literature.
The eight CICERO researchers work across different areas of climate research, including atmospheric science, emissions, energy and climate policy. Their presence on the list therefore also reflects the breadth of research at CICERO and its contribution to the international climate research community.
Andrew also highlights the collaborative nature of the research behind the rankings.
– It also shows that working with an international team of dedicated and accomplished colleagues builds work that reaches far and wide, he says.
CICERO Director Christine Tørklep says the ranking is a strong recognition of the institute's research community.
– Having eight researchers included on this list is a significant achievement. With around 80 researchers at CICERO, it means that roughly ten per cent of our scientific staff are represented. That reflects both the quality of our research and the international impact of the work being carried out at CICERO.
