Since August, the Board of CICERO has been seeking a new director to succeed Kristin Halvorsen, whose term expires next year.

Board Chair Jens Ulltveit-Moe is very pleased with the appointment:

"Because we maintain high scientific standards and strong professional integrity, CICERO has become known as one of the world’s leading institutes for climate research. It has been absolutely essential for the Board to find a leader who will safeguard and further develop both the research and the highly competent people working here.

“This is a complex leadership role at the intersection of science, administration, and politics.

In addition, Tørklep has a deep commitment to climate issues and solid knowledge of research funding, both nationally and internationally," said Jens Ulltveit-Moe, who led the Board’s efforts to find a new director.

Tørklep has a broad background as a leader and board member in companies such as Storebrand, Statskog, Denofa, Folketrygdfondet, and Norsk Gjenvinning. Climate has been a common thread throughout her career.

“Leading a world-class climate research institute is truly an honourable and exciting mission, said Tørklep.

Christine Tørklep will assume the role of Director on March 1, 2026. Kristin Halvorsen will remain affiliated with CICERO until April 30.
