Call for Applications: Scholarships for Master’s Theses in the Social Sciences at CICERO (Greenleap)
CICERO announces 1–2 scholarships for master’s students in the social sciences who want to write a master’s thesis affiliated with the research project GREENLEAP.
The scholarships are awarded as financial support for the completion of master’s theses with thematic relevance to the project’s research agenda within climate, energy and environmental politics in Latin America.
Each scholarship amounts to NOK 20,000. Half of the scholarship will be paid at the start of the project, and the other half after the master’s thesis has been submitted. The scholarship is limited to theses that are initiated in the year in which the application is approved.
The student will receive academic supervision from researchers at CICERO and may further develop the thesis in dialogue with both CICERO and the university supervisor. The final research question, as well as the choice of method and theory, is determined by the student.
CICERO is an internationally leading center for interdisciplinary climate research, with a strong social science research environment focusing on international climate cooperation and energy and climate policy in Norway, Europe, and other parts of the world. Students who receive a scholarship will be affiliated with the Climate Policy research group. Researchers in this group have backgrounds in the social sciences, including political science, science and technology studies (STS), and sociology.
Possible Topics Related to the GREENLEAP Research Project
The GREENLEAP project focuses on green transition in large export-oriented sectors in Latin American countries. We study how elites linked to economically important sectors engage with climate and environmental issues, and the role of different actors in political processes. The project has a particular focus on the agricultural sector in Brazil, the mining sector in Chile, and the oil and gas sectors in Colombia and Mexico, using comparative approaches. We also examine interactions with other sectors, these countries’ roles in international climate politics, and opportunities for regional cooperation.
