Taiyuan, one of the most polluted cities in the world, is the first cleaner production demonstration city of China. Using the impact pathway approach to integrated assessment we analyse the CO2-reduction potential and local health benefits due to reduced particle emissions of six cleaner production projects in the city. The projects have quite different CO2-reduction and co-benefit potentials, and also quite different economic costs. Our results show that emission conditions (especially stack height) and meteorology are important for the estimated co-benefit potential. The possibilities for foreign funding as CDM projects are discussed.
