Fay is a social scientist specialising in comparative climate policy, political parties and EU politics.
She has a BA in Philosophy and Politics (York), MPhil in Environmental Policy (Cambridge) and a PhD in Politics (York). She has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Governance and Policy Analysis at the University of Canberra.
Her research seeks to explain variation in countries’ climate policies, examining the role that political parties, institutions and interest groups play. Her research interests also include EU politics and the EU Green Deal.
Fay has previously worked as an Associate Lecturer in the Environment Department at the University of York and as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Politics at the University of Sheffield. Her postdoctoral research analysed the impact of Brexit on UK environmental policy. Fay also has experience from government, having worked as a Senior Social Researcher in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) in the UK and as a Senior Adviser in the Climate Department at the Norwegian Environment Agency.
