  • MOCA: Methane Emissions from the Arctic OCean to the Atmosphere The MOCA project will enhance understanding of the present atmospheric effects of methane released from dissociation of gas hydrates in Arctic seabed sediments, and will also inform on the future potential impacts in a warming climate on decadal to centennial timescales.

  • Quantifying Climate Impacts of Future Forest Management Strategies in Norway The international community has agreed that the increase in global temperature must be limited to 2°C above the pre-industrial levels. Meeting this ambitious goal requires a large-scale shift away from the fossil economy towards one based on renewable materials and energy like biomass.
  • Sensible heat has significantly affected the global hydrological cycle over the historical period Multiple lines of evidence indicate widespread changes to the global water cycle since 1950. Here we show, using a range of climate modelling results, that changes in sensible heat are the dominant contributor to the present global-mean precipitation change since preindustrial time.
  • CICERO to study the climate impacts of hydrogen emissions Hydrogen is often considered a green energy carrier that has the potential to replace oil, but little is known about its environmental and climate impacts. Over the next three years, CICERO will therefore study what these impacts are.

  • UTRICS Global temperatures are rising due to the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. In addition to increasing greenhouse gas emissions, human activity has changed the composition of particles in the atmosphere. These have masked some of the warming caused by the greenhouse gases. How large is this cooling effect, and how has it changed over time?
